While fully open peonies are beautiful and surely make a statement, their lifespan can be quite short at this stage. Peonies that are already fully open are much closer to the end of their blooming cycle and typically last only 2–3 days.
In order for our flower friends to enjoy their peonies for longer, we deliver them when they are in the "bud" stage (round, slightly hard and green) or in the "marshmallow" stage (a bit of color, slightly soft and round). Peonies in these stages last up to 10 days longer than their fully opened counterparts. Slightly closed peonies typically open within 1–3 days in fresh water at room temperature.
